H. Richard Adams, M.D., began caring for CareMeridian patients in the 1990s and joined its team of Physician Experts in 2012. With nearly 30 years of medical experience in Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Dr. Adams has been an associate with Rehabilitation Associates Medical Group in Long Beach, Ca.
Dr. Adams served his residency at the University of California Medical Center, Irvine, which included these other centers: the Veterans Administration Hospital, Long Beach; Fairview State Hospital, Costa Mesa; Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Long Beach Miller’s Children’s Hospital — all in Southern California. He holds a bachelor of science degree from California State University, Long Beach; and a Medical Degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. He has also served in the California National Guard Army and Air Force Reserve.
Dr. Adams is Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatrist), California Children’s Service physician panel and previously certified Case Manager and Qualified Medical Examiner. He serves as Associate Clinical Professor, University of Medical Center, Irvine, California.
Dr. Adams currently holds appointments at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Long Beach; Women’s Hospital Long Beach; Earl & Lorraine Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach; Winways (Medical Director-Community Brain Injury Community Re-entry Rehabilitation Program). He has previously been on staffs at other hospital and rehabilitation facilities throughout California.
Dr. Adams has served on numerous national and local professional societies. He has volunteered his time over 30 years to organizations dedicated to brain injury, including Brain Injury Association of America, Brain Injury Association of California, Betty Clooney Foundation, Integrity House, Brain Injury and Injured Network and many other community charities.
Dr. Adams has expertise in neuro-pharmological agents, spasticity management and the continuum of care for catastrophic injuries. He is active in brain injury research and recently completed and is currently involved in projects with the National Institute of Health. Dr. Adams is a popular speaker on topics such as pediatric/adult brain injury rehabilitation, marketing ethics, vocational rehabilitation, spasticity, the effects of managed care on rehabilitation and the continuum of care in additional to other topics.
Dr. Adams has received numerous awards, including Los Angeles Magazine’s “LA’s Best Doctors”, Top Doctors, Best Doctors, US News and World Report Best Physicians, Rehabilitation Nurses Society’s Physician’s Recognition Award, nominated for Excellence in Health Care by ABC7/MemorialCare and most recently “Person of the Year” for B.R.A.I.N.
